Banda procedente de New Jersey, formada en 1999 y con tres discos publicado. El ultimo disco (The Fall Parade), al cual pertenece esta canción, es de 2006 y desde entonces no hay noticias de ellos. Sus influencias musicales son el power pop y la música pop británica de los años 60. 

Como curiosidad he leído que el nombre del grupo se tomo de los apellidos  del músico de blues Pink Anderson y el músico de jazz Floyd Council (Syd Barrett había hecho lo mismo, pero había utilizado sus dos primeros nombres: Pink Floyd)

Tengo la manía de asociar a Marshall Crenshaw con Graham Parker, Elvis Costello y Nick Lowe. Entiendo que la asociación esta mas que justificada. Pertenecen a esa parte de la new wave que busco el sonido y la música pop de los años 60. Marshall Crenshaw, nació en 1953 y su primer disco es de 1982, fue el último de los cuatro en llegar al gran público y aunque es mundialmente conocido por "Someday, Someway" su primer disco tiene otras grandes canciones como esta.

Canción perteneciente al quinto disco de esta “banda” constituida en Los Ángeles en 1995. Lo cierto es que Eels es E (Mark Oliver Everett) un tipo un tanto extraño, peculiar, genial y, desde luego, ajeno a las modas. Shootenanny fue en su momento y actualmente también el disco mas “escuchable” de la banda, esto es el más comercial, aunque no por ello es un mal disco, tan solo es menos experimental que los anteriores. Se trata de un gran disco (quien puede lo mas, puede lo menos)

LA SEMANA DE HOODOO GURUS. ULTIMA ENTREGA. "What´s in it for me?

El pasado 15 de diciembre de 2009, Hoodoo Gurus publicaron el Single "Craking on" adelanto de su ultimo disco "Purity of Esssence", Interesante nombre, una vuelta a sus origenes, pero con una produccion y sonido mas acorde con los tiempos. Este es el segundo disco despues de su vuelta en 2004 y me parece una de los regresos mas honrados, interesantes y prometedores de todos los que se han producido en los ultimos tiempos. El disco ha sido producido por Hoodoo Gurus y publicado por Hoodoo Gurus Records. 

La banda en la actualidad

LA SEMANA DE HOODOO GURUS. DIA 6.. "If only .. " y "Chop"

Disco: In blue cave (1996)

Después de los discos editados con RCA, Hoodoo Gurus esta tres años sin publicar ningún disco nuevo de estudio (en el año 1992 publicaron dos discos uno recopilatorio y otro de caras B y rarezas). Pues bien, en el año 1994 publicaron su disco “Crank”, uno de los peores discos de la banda, con alguna canción buena, pero demasiadas “canciones de relleno”. En el año 1996, con Mushroom Records, realizaron su séptimo disco “In blue cave”, cierta mejoría (si bien es cierto que con la referencia del disco anterior cualquier cosa seria mejor), aunque es un “mas de lo mismo”. Se empieza a predecir el final de la banda, por ideas agotadas y no haber podido/sabido evolucionar, lo que ocurrio en año mas tarde tras publicar " Electric Chair" y su disolucion en el año 1998.

Seis años después de su separación la banda decide reunirse para realizar un nuevo disco de estudio “Mach Schau”, se publico con la discográfica Capitol. Un gran disco sin olvidar la esencia de Hoodoo Gurus y el más pop de todos los realizados por la banda, buen retorno.

LA SEMANA DE HOODOO GURUS. DIA 5.. "Come anytime"

Tras el aparente fracaso de “blow your cool!” y la ruptura con la discográfica Elektra, Los Hoodoo Gurus ficharon por RCA. Fruto de esa unión nacieron dos grandes discos: “Magnum cum Lauder” (1989) y “kinky” (1991). Posiblemente estamos ante el mejor momento de la banda dos buenos discos, con buenas ventas y la producción de los discos por los propios Hoodoo Gurus.

En un “post” anterior puse la canción “I don´t mind”. En este la canción con la que empezaba el disco “Magnum cum Louder”, “Come anytime”

LA SEMANA DE HOODOO GURUS. CUARTA ENTREGA. "Good Times"

Después de dos discos realmente extraordinarios (Stoneage Romeos y Mars need guitars), Elektra (discográfica en aquellos años de Hoodoo Gurus) pensó que era la hora de que la banda triunfara en el mercado americano. Para la ocasión contaron con el productor Mark Opitz (que había sido productor de AC-DC). El resultado no fue el esperado, ni en cuanto a la calidad del disco, ni en cuanto al éxito del gran publico. "Blow your cool!", sin ser un mal disco, era más pop que los anteriores, desilusiono a los seguidores de Hodoo Gurus sin llegar a convencer al gran público. Consecuencias: Hoodoo Gurus no contó más con Opitz y Elektra dejo de ser la discográfica de la banda.

En esta canción contaron con la colaboración de Bangles que hacen coros.

Hoodoo Gurus buscaron en el garage rock, power pop y surf, para crear su estilo propio, su inspiración fue la musica estadounidense y de hecho a mediados y finales de los años 80 eran considerados como la mejor banda del nuevo rock americano de la epoca.

Le Hoodoo Gurus (como se denominó originalmente) fueron liderados por el cantante y compositor Dave Faulkner, quien junto con el bateria, James Baker, Rod Radalj y Kimble Rendall fueron los componentes originales de la banda (tres guitarras, sin bajo)
