La mejor banda de rock americano de los 80 comenzó su declive a principios de los 90. Esto es una broma o un ejemplo. Este blog no es kiss fm, pero en esta entrada pongo la conocida canción de Boston y la broma que hicieron Hooddo Gurus de esta canción. Como vereis sigo en Australia.

The Pains of Being Pure at Heart "Come Saturday"

Fenomenal primer disco (2009) de esta banda de Nueva York, la cual he conocido gracias a Paco Belda. Tan sólo tengo el disco una semana y no he tenido tiempo para escucharlo en profundidad, pero aún así me recuerdan un poco a The Pastel. Indie pop que hace que no perdamos la esperanza, todavía hay gente que hace buena música. De momento de lo mejor de este año.

Banda de los años 90 de California, rock alternativo con aires agridulces y melancólicos. Clara influencia de R.E.M. Esta banda dejó de existir en 1998 y desde entonces su lider Glen Phillips tiene una amplía discografía en solitario en la presente decada. Esta canción es de su último disco "Coil" de 1997

Microdisney "Birthday Girl"

Preciosa canción de este duo irlandés que pasó por los años 80 con más pena que gloria. Esta canción es un single de 1985 (no está en ningún LP). Sin duda alguna una de las mejores canciones de la década de los 80.

Eytan Mirsky "Outta Sight"

Cantautor neoyorquino (Queens), similar a Marshall Crenshaw, Nick Lowe, Bill Lloyd o Chris Von Sneidern. Power pop sin más pretensiones.

Sexy Sadie "Stay behind me"

Preciosa canción de esta banda de Mallorca, creada en 1992 y disuelta en 2006, aunque este año han decidido hacer dos conciertos el 12 y 19 de junio en Barcelona y Madrid, en lo que parece ser su reaparición definitiva. Para mi son uno de los mejores grupos que ha dado este país, si no el mejor. Esta canción es de su tercer disco "It´s beatiful, it´s love". Indie pop de altura. En esta canción interviene la cantante Najwa Nimri.

La fenomenal banda de Ohio vuelve a este blog, seguro que no será la última. Además de estar muy bien esta canción tiene una pequeña historia personal. Este disco es de 1996 y fue el disco definitivo, el que hizo que esta banda se consagrara. Power pop, pop alternativo, pero con el sello personal de los dos lideres de este grupo Jon Auer y Ken Stringfellow.

Banda creada en Colorado (Estados Unidos) a mediados de esta década. Estilo similar a The Fray, Augustana y Maroon 5, entre otros. Hacen un indie pop alternativo bastante decente para los tiempos que corren. La canción de esta entrada se encuentra en los dos discos que de momento tiene esta banda: "One Republic"0 y "Dreaming out loud"

Redbus "Tuesday"

Esta gente es todo un misterio. Me compré este disco hace unos diez años. El disco se llama Redbus, como el grupo y es la referencia 01 de Von´s Music, distribuido por Caroline España y agradecimientos en los créditos a Cadena 100. A pesar de todo, no he encontrado nada en ningún sitio de esta gente. No sé de que año es (no lo pone en ningún sitio en el disco). Hacen pop británico y son muy buenos. Desconozco porque más que un grupo maldito es un grupo oculto.

Exitosa banda de Glasgow, creada a primeros de los 90, aunque su primer disco es de 1997, esta canción es de su tercer disco "The invisible man" de junio de 2001.

Velvet Crush

Banda de Power pop, nacida en Providence (Rhode Island) en 1989, influencias de The Byrds y Big Star entre otros, muy parecidos a Teenage Fanclub, pero con menos suerte. esta gente tienen siete discos. Las dos canciones que acompaño con esta entrada son de su segundo disco "Teenage Symphonies to God" de 1994

Hace unas semanas nos dejó Antonio Vega, está versión demuestra lo grande que fue ese autor. El mundo al revés. Una banda de Los Estados Unidos, haciendo una versión de una canción española del pop de los 80. Esta una versión digna de esa gran canción.

The Pyramidiacs "Stupid Questions"

Banda Australiana de power pop, esta canción es del último disco que tienen publicado "Nobody´s fools". El disco está producido por el propio grupo y por Michael Carpenter en el año 2.002 y está editado por Rock Indiana. Esta banda está muy vinculada a España, de hecho Eddie Owen adaptó la letra de la chica de ayer al inglés en la versión que de esa canción hicieron Gigolo Aunt. Similares a Jack and the Beanstalk, DM3, Plimsouls, Velvet Crush y Chevelles.

The Montgomery Cliffs "Tell Her"

Banda de powerpop de los años 90-00, liderada por Joey Salvia, el cual es vocalista, bajista, autor de todas las canciones del grupo y productor e ingeniero de sonido. Esta canción es de su disco "Andiamo" (2001). The Montgomery Cliffs es una de las muchas bandas de power pop afincadas en Baltimore.

DM3 "1 Time, 2 Time Devastated"

Trío formado en 1992 por el cantante y guitarrista "Dom Mariani", el bajista "Toni Italiano" y el batería "Pascal Bartolone", en la cuidad de Perth -Australia- (lo cual resulta evidente a tenor de los nombres de los componentes del grupo). El grupo se despidió en 1998 con un disco recopilatorio de caras B. Esta canción es la más representativa de su primer disco, "1 Time, 2 Times, 3 Red Light". Power pop guitarrero.

Ben Lee "Catch my Disease"

Ben Lee es uno de los grandes músicos de los cuales se ha servido la publicidad.

Elvis Costello "Oliver´s Army"

Estupenda canción de Elvis Costello, además incluyo una versión de Blur.

The Go-Betweens "Lee Remick"

Banda creada en Brisbane (Australia) en 1.978, esta canción dedicada a la actriz, Lee Remick, fue compuesta hace treinta años por uno de los dos pilares de este grupo Robert Forster, el otro es el recordado Grant McLennan.

Hace un tiempo llegó a mis manos un disco tributo a Los Ramones que se llama "Todos somos Ramones" Son versiones de bandas nacionales y sudamericanas. Esta versión me hizo gracia. Este grupo es de Argentina y como es evidente hacen ska.

Esta canción es de su primer disco, "Someone to drive you home", es de 2.006 (publicado en el mes de noviembre), la influencia de la new wave es más que evidente. Para mi, una de las grandes sorpresas de esta década.
